Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) For College Athletes
What Is NIL?
The tide is turning in college sports. Starting July 1, 2021, the NCAA Board of Directors lifted institutional restrictions prohibiting student-athletes from earning compensation for the use of their name, image, and likeness (“NIL”). Permitting student-athletes to earn compensation from the use of their name, image, and likeness will have a substantial impact on the student-athletes competing in both revenue and non-revenue generating sports.
The ability for student-athletes to engage in promotional, endorsement, traditional and social media ad campaigns creates a unique opportunity for local businesses to support local student-athletes while participating in a direct and focused ad campaign at their target market.
